Lately I have been so captivated and enamored by any kind of talent.
I was doing one of my weekly walks by the beach, and I was stopped in my tracks because I heard the most beautiful violin music.
I was blown away by the sight in front of me. The crashing waves of La Jolla Cove and someone playing live music? Can someone wake me up because I must be dreaming. How does life get any better than that? Lol
It was like being an onlooker to God’s beautiful masterpiece right in front of my eyes. I thanked the young woman for playing the violin, but her gift stuck with me. And I thought to myself how many talented folks are all around me.
On any given weekday you can find me at Balboa Park. It just feels like home to me. I used to live in Downtown, and it was almost every day or night that I would walk over to the park, and take in all of its beauty.
And my goodness, it is one of the most beautiful spots ever, with the lush trees and gardens, the lily pond, the beautiful architecture. Even being captivated by the tourist’s captivation makes me happy. I usually stick to the same spots, but lately I’ve been branching out to the park’s other features, and really enjoying what Balboa Park offers.
I enjoyed a day solo at the Natural History Museum. And I visited the National Geographic exhibition, 50 Greatest Wildlife Photographs.
I mean the talent that these photographers have just blew my mind. Photography of still objects like buildings or landscapes is amazing in and of itself, but these artists used innovations such as camera traps, remote imaging, and underwater technology, to get the most incredible photos of the wildlife.
It could have been that I was really enjoying a solo day out, but I just got to soak in every beautiful photo and really enjoy the talent that these photographers have.
My husband and I always talked about going to the Old Globe Theater to catch a show. We’d always walk past it and reverberate the above, but for some reason it never panned out. It was pushed to the back of my mind, so when I was writing out my list of goals a few months back, one of them was to watch a show at the Old Globe.
I pulled up the website to see what was on the schedule, but I was taken to a landing page of people waiting to purchase tickets to Almost Famous the musical.
I thought, Ok, that must be a sign to check this show out.
And because I never saw the movie, the synopsis just drew me in.
15 year old writer gets tasked by Rolling Stones magazine to follow a band on tour. Ok Diggin it.
And the sign to check this show out was further cemented by the words “It’s All Happening!”
Ever since I got back in touch with myself and my dreams, my life has been unfolding so beautifully. And no matter what occurs, you know that you will always prevail, IF you stick to your goals. And accomplishing your goals, no matter how small they may be, just makes you feel so amazing and that it’s all happening. 😉
So, making it a goal to see a show at the Old Globe and accomplishing it just felt awesome.
I went on the date night with my husband, and we grabbed a pre-drink at Panama 66.
Usually I am there wrangling my kiddos, stopping them from feeding the pigeons M&M cookies, or telling them not to climb the statues in the garden before the security tells them not to, so just to enjoy a beautiful San Diego evening with my husband at “my favorite spot within my favorite spot” was spectacular.
It was almost showtime, so we made our way to the theatre.
Cameron Crowe, the writer and director of the autobiographical movie Almost Famous, was in the audience. And I was like, wow how awesome is it to see your life and work just personified in such a beautiful form.
The actors were so incredible that I was completely transported to the 1970s and I couldn’t wipe the smile from my face from what an amazing time I had. I also thought, while we were giving a standing ovation, how amazing must it feel to give your all into this performance and then get that love reciprocated from the audience.
I mean so many people played in integral role in this great production. The actors, writers, costume designers, lighting designers, musical directors, casting, choreography…They all came together and created something so beautiful.
And so it brings me back to talent.
I mean it doesn’t have to look like being a photographer for the National Geographic, or being an award winning director in Hollywood…
Talent, to me, is anything that you put your heart and soul into. And you usually put your heart and soul into something that makes you happy.
I always stress the importance of self-growth, because without it, our talents probably would never shine.
We’d listen to the voice in the back of our minds saying we are not good enough.
Or we’d be too worried about what others think if we followed our dreams.
Or our own ego would stop us from fulfilling our dreams because we may not want to look like a beginner or a newcomer.
All of our constraints and bondages hold us back from unleashing the beauty within us.
So take the time to know yourself and where your talents lie.
Release yourself from the notions that you are not good enough.
Be vulnerable.
Showcase yourself and show us who you are.
Because when you pour your heart and soul into something, you’re simply giving back to the world what God gave You…and nothing is more beautiful than that.
