New Year New Me

Here comes another year. And another set of resolutions. I never was the type who needed to start a new diet or a new fitness regimen. I graduated college back in 2009, got married in 2012, and have a beautiful son who arrived into this world in October. I can say I’ve accomplished a lot, but the one thing that I need to focus on more is my personal relationship with God. This is the ultimate relationship that will help me flourish in all aspects of my life. The only one where if I listen to Him I will know the real truth, the only one where if I love Him back I will be granted graces that are out of this world, literally 😉

But it is not so simple in this world. We live in a world where distractions are a plenty! I can count hours and hours I’ve spent in front of a TV watching mindless shows, hours spent surfing the web, hours spent on social media. What good comes from this? How can we progress as individuals if we are sitting before a screen?

We would have a lot more time to help others if we were not so distracted by TV. Who cares about the pointless “news”? What constitutes “news” anyway? A fire in a building? A shooting down the street? Really think about it. The weather? Can’t we see the weather by going outside? It is all just a ploy to get wrapped in to watch TV and ultimately, kill any sense of self-actualization and reflection that each person needs in order to examine their conscious. We cannot be distracted from the voice of God. How can we be guided by the Holy Spirit if we are wrapped in our phones. All these take us away from being our best self.

Resolution. Don’t let these distractions distract me. Make more time for God.

  1. Amazing! That is totally true. We are blinded by so many things and don’t realize until time passes by (years). Then we look back at it and wish we did drop all of this nonsense social media, tv and other distractions we didn’t have when we were a lot younger. Remember when we were young. How fun was it to play outside and build forts and just LIVE life. Kids nowadays are stuck in the world we live in today. They want the new video console or cell phone. It’s very sad. I feel like what we are surrounded by is a test from God. Only the strong will make it. Just like you 🙂

    1. Yes! Everything is a test by God. We are given the opportunities many times to do good, and sometimes we fail, but constant reminder of our life goal, will ensure passing these tests.

  2. I love this post , Vianca! I wish many more to find Him and know that His word is amazing and so beautiful. I, myself, used to have distractions and wouldn’t find time to pray the rosary but now I made sure that He is always first and that nothing else in my daily schedule will interfere. Keep up the good work with this blog.

    1. Thanks Merna. I agree I don’t listen to the radio much in the car. It is usually just filled with praying the rosary, chaplet, or just gathering my thoughts. 🙂
