Do What You Love

Why do we always second guess ourselves?

Why is there that voice that tells us that we are not good at something? Or that we won’t succeed.

Where could this be coming from?

It sure isn’t from God. God would never let us second guess ourselves from making a decision that would better ourself.

God wants us to be Great. God wants us to be the Best. He wants to make us better versions of our selves.

So when we are thinking about joining the gym to better our health, don’t listen to that voice that tells you that you’re not good enough to go.

When we are thinking of finally starting to do the hobby we love, don’t listen to that voice that tells you not to do it. Or that you can wait till next week to start.

DO IT.

Do what you love. Don’t let that part of you doubt you or tell you that you are wrong. That voice is not coming from God.

When you do what you love from the bottom of your heart you are tapping into God’s overflowing love for you.

There is no doubt that once I started writing again my life was changing for the better. When I was actively searching for inspiration for writing, I was almost flabbergasted by how much inspiration was right under my nose. I started recognizing the immense beauty in everyday life. That we are all interconnected. That we are all desperately yearning for some evidence of God’s love on this Earth.

I went to Balboa Park today with my family. When I was living in downtown, I would walk there several times a week. And when I finally returned today, I told my husband how much I missed this place. And how beautiful it is.

While I was waiting for my husband and son to finish using the restroom, I noticed a worker sweeping. I smiled at her and she smiled back. But what I wanted to tell her was thank you. Thank you for keeping this amazing park clean and beautiful. It is you who contributes to the beauty of this place. I walked to her to tell her, but was interrupted by scavenger hunters asking her for help on their next clue. We were on our way, but I hope that my smile was enough to express my gratitude to her.

After our snack, we walked over to the fountain near the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. There was a man who had his bubble station set up, and he was helping young children, including my boys, to make some huge bubbles. The children were elated, and of course the parents were. The smile on everyone’s faces was contagious.

I thought to myself, you know, people may think this job as a street performer is low on the totem pole, but maybe, just maybe, he knows something that we don’t. We purchased a couple bubble making kits from him, and later at home, I read his business card that said,

“Creating smiles, one bubble at a time”

It got me thinking that, if you truly love something that you do; others will recognize that, success will come, and love will flourish.

When I was younger and was tasked with chores, which I hated to do, my mother would always tell me, “Just do it with love!”

Excuse me mom, but how can you do dishes with love? Was this some sort of trick to make me like doing dishes?

Little did I know what kind of effect this would have on my life. But I didn’t truly understand it till years later.

Back to Balboa Park, we were returning to our vehicle, but the boys wanted to ride the carousel. About half a dozen kids and parents were awaiting their turn to ride, and I chose to stay aside because our youngest was sleeping.

Once the ride got started, the smiles and laughs were plentiful. It was truly contagious, just like the smiles at the bubble station. I felt so warm and fuzzy inside, and I turned to the carousel attendant and said, “It’s really cool to watch so many happy people.” He agreed and said “Yeah.”

He may have thought that I was a bit loony, but I hope he recognized that despite the routine tasks of turning the carousel on and off, adjusting rider’s safety belts, and opening and closing the gate, that true beauty lied within.

When we do our everyday tasks with Love, and truly appreciate and are grateful for each moment, our life will start to change. Consider this, if you are a parent and gift your child with something and that child is so happy and grateful, aren’t you compelled to give more and more? On the other hand, if you give that child something and he does not reciprocate with love, you are not as willing to give. If they cannot appreciate the small stuff, how are they going to be truly grateful for the big stuff?

Likewise, if we cannot truly appreciate the gift of everyday life, how is God going to bless us with more?

Love what you do at all times of the day and great things will be in store for you.

  1. I think a lot of us can benefit from this. The whole second thoughts are not coming from God. It makes sense now.
    Makes absolute sense.

Thank you for your continuous beautiful writing, Vianca
